Brachial Plexus

The spinal roots come out from the cervical spine, forming an intricate network that is responsible for innervating the upper limbs, called the brachial plexus.

This very sensitive network, which is located deep in the neck and shoulder area, can be severely damaged by impact or traction, which will lead to paralysis and disability of the hands.

Most of these injuries occur in road accidents, shoulder fractures, severe arm sprains, penetrating injuries such as knives or bullets, or congenital malformations. Spontaneous injuries can sometimes damage the network as well which is called Stinger / Brenner syndrome.

Depending on the severity of the injury, the injured person will have some degree of disability, ranging from minor weakness to complete paralysis of the limb.

Diagnosis of these injuries is mainly by thorough physical examination and confirmation using Electrodiagnosis.

Recovery from these injuries, especially in severe cases, will often be difficult and incomplete. Major treatments include long sessions of physical therapy and strengthening and stretching exercises.

You can see the appropriate exercises for this injury in the therapeutic exercises by Rehabex App.
