MRI

The intervertebral discs of the spine are classified as soft tissues of the body that cannot be seen or detected on ordinary radiographs (X-rays). To see the discs and spinal cord MRI is helpful.

Conventional radiology is commonly used to look at the bony area of the spine, such as the vertebrae themselves, and to diagnose problems such as fractures, dislocations, and deviations of the spine.

MRI is needed to look for problems with the disc and other soft tissues. The term MRI stands for Magnetic Resonance Imaging. During that, magnetic rays are projected in to the subject and based on the arrangement of iron atoms in the magnetic field, the image is created and the tissues becomes visible.

Due to the use of magnetic radiation, no harmful radiation reach the body in MRI. However, it is forbidden to do this for people who have metal objects in sensitive parts of the body.

Sometimes a contrast injection is used for better differentiation of the tissues, which should be mentioned in the patient’s prescription.

The prescription for MRI can only be done by the relevant specialist doctor.
