Tennis Elbow

Inflammation of some tendons in the back muscles of the forearm that attach to the lateral side of the elbow is called tennis elbow. This problem often presents as pain and tenderness with a local touch or movement on the lateral side of the elbow (inflammation of the tendons on the medial side of the elbow is called golfer’s elbow).

This injury is seen in tennis players, but any exercise or work that is accompanied by excessive pressure on the tendons of the forearm extensor muscles extensors causes this problem.

In our clinic, most housewives or people who do heavy manual work, such as construction jobs, come to us with this problem.

A thorough examination is sufficient to diagnose and often does not require radiology or other imaging, but a nerve and muscle test may be needed to differentiate between radiculopathic pain or other comorbidities.

Treatment often includes temporary painkillers, training the patient not to put pressure on the tendons, stretching exercises, physical therapy, ligation of the Tennis Elbow band, and sometimes dry needle therapy or even topical corticosteroid injections.
