Meralgia paresthesia is a condition in which the cutaneous nerve of lateral of the thigh, which passes through the front of the groin, is pressed. Clinical signs include burning pain and tingling in the lateral aspect of the thigh.
Sometimes this condition is accompanied by numbness and paresthesia.

The most important differential diagnosis of this disease is lumbar disc herniation and pressure on nerve roots. The way to differentiate between these two diseases is to perform nerve and muscle tests. Physiatrists can easily diagnose the disease with electrodiagnosis test.
This disease is caused mainly by obesity, sitting for a long time or wearing a tights belt; however, sometimes the cause remains unknown.
Primary treatment includes weight loss, reduction of groin pressure, analgesics and anti-neuropathies. In stages where the patient has a lot of problems, anesthetic injections and nerve blocks can be used.
